HOUSTON HIGHLIGHTS
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, then you know the Houston Marathon and Houston Half Marathon Ambassadors were announced this week! I’ll always have a soft spot for that program. If you haven’t already, make sure you’re following them on social media.
Whether you're training for a marathon or just headed out for a long weekend run, there's nothing like running outdoors. But summer is coming and with it comes Houston’s heat and humidity. Check out Methodist’s 5 Questions to Ask Before Running in Humidity for some tips before heading out the door.
HOUSTONIANS ON OTHER PODS
Starla was also on the Running Explained podcast this week. Among other things, they discuss the importance of proper run & race fueling, the common reasons runners neglect to fuel, or underfuel, their runs or races, the recommendations of carbs per hour, the different types of performance fuel options and the importance of individual preferences, how poor race fueling is your number one obstacle to race day success, and the fueling requirements for a 6:00 marathoner vs a 3:00 marathoner.
RUNNING NERD LINKS
Just because your watch doesn’t say 26.2 or 13.1 when you finish the race, doesn’t mean the course is wrong. Check out this Runner’s World article on why there’s no such thing as exactly hitting the distance on a certified course.
Texas A&M’s Athing Mu broke the collegiate record in the 400m when she ran 49.68 at NCAA Regionals. She has lost only once during her college career - in March, when she finished second at the NCAA Indoor T&F Championships.
